Snowy Oaks is the oldest Large Munsterlander kennel in the United States, our first litter having arrived in April 1987. As mentioned elsewhere, 76 dogs born at Snowy Oaks have been bred, by us and by other breeders, following the Large Munsterlander Association of America’s (LMAA) performance-based breeding management strategies. Twenty-five of our dogs have prized in NAVHDA Utility tests, including six Prize I's. Six out of seven of the
U.S.-born NAVHDA Versatile Champions have had a Snowy Oaks sire or dam. You will find multiple Snowy Oaks progeny in the vast majority of LMAA pedigrees.
Curt Shreve has a long and varied history with training, trialing, testing, and most importantly, HUNTING with a variety of pointing specialist and versatile gun dogs. Having previously owned Brittanys and English Setters, he was a National Shoot-to-Retrieve Judge for over 20 years. His experience training, handling, and prizing LMs in NAVHDA Natural Ability (46 to date) is second-to-none, and he has additionally provided training support for a countless number of LMs and their owners. Curt is also out front in NAVHDA Utility experience, having trained and handled 14 LMs in UT including three Prize I’s. He has participated in the NAVHDA Invitational and has often provided extensive support for many other LMs and their owners preparing for advanced hunting tests.
Although Curt's local hunting passion is grouse and woodcock, he regularly hunts pheasant and quail, and has hunted a wide variety of upland birds and waterfowl from Arizona to Alberta and many points in between. He enjoys participating in Pheasant Championship tournaments and has finished in the top five several times at a variety of these events with different LMs (including a few wins).
Romy Shreve has been heavily involved with Large Munsterlanders since the first one arrived at Snowy Oaks in 1985. She spends countless hours analyzing pedigrees and test results, caring for litters, training puppies, aiding in other training/hunting activities, and managing much of the "back-office administration" for both Snowy Oaks and LMAA. She has been a member of the Board of Directors of LMAA for 12 years serving as the Breeding Officer.
